The Arete Men’s Group

  • Why Group Therapy?

Group therapy is beneficial for a variety of reasons, not the least of which being the weekly reminder that we are not alone in our experiences.

Whether we feel stressed out, overworked, or directionless, having regular interactions with a small community of people who relate to us is an edifying reminder that we share a great deal as human beings. Group encounters also encourage vulnerability and authenticity with ourselves and others, giving us the tools we need to build new relationships and strengthen our existing relational dynamics with family, friends, coworkers, and others.

For those of us who struggle with feeling unheard, unseen, or unappreciated, group therapy offers a space to explore and discover our voice. Further, group encounters provide us with the unique opportunity to experience conflict and confrontation in a safe environment.

  • What's a Men's Group?

This new group, offered through the Arete Center by Dr. Peter Goodwin, will be a space where we can offer support, share insights, and explore issues that arise in men’s lives. We will address issues specific to navigating masculinity in today’s world, including ideas around fatherhood, relationships, and achievement.

The purpose of this group will be to help one another discover purpose and meaning, build self-reflective practices, and provide a space to discuss issues that might be difficult to address with those closest to us. This will also be useful for men who have questions about therapy or simply want to discuss difficult ideas in a nonjudgmental, open setting.

  • What's the commitment?

This group will operate on a 3-month rotating schedule with approximately 12 meetings per cycle. Members of the group will have the opportunity to re-enroll after the 12-weeks for the next session.

Meetings will take place using a hybrid model, with the first meeting of each month occurring in person, and each additional meeting occurring remotely via Zoom. Additionally, the last meeting of the rotation will take place in person.

Meeting are Thursday evenings at 6 p.m. and will last 90 minutes, and will cost $250 for 4 sessions.
